The 2026 10-hryvnia commemorative circulation coin “In Memory of Those Executed, Tortured, or Who Died in Captivity” is dedicated to honoring the memory of the defenders of Ukraine—both men and women—members of volunteer units, and civilians who were executed, tortured, or died in captivity as a result of the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
The coin serves as a symbol of perpetuating the memory of those whose lives were cut short in captivity, as well as a reminder of Russia’s grave crimes committed against the Ukrainian people.
The obverse of the coin features the Small State Emblem of Ukraine (at the top); framed by an Old Russian ornament, with the inscriptions UKRAINE / 10 / HRYVNIAS (in a semicircle) centered; against the background of the ornament, the year of minting—2026 (at the bottom)—and the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine (on the right) are indicated.
The reverse of the coin depicts a chain with a broken link, symbolizing liberation from shackles. Parts of the chain rise upward and transform into silhouettes of birds—images of an unbreakable spirit, heroism, and the peaceful passage into eternity of those who gave their lives for Ukraine. Around the circumference is the inscription “IN MEMORY OF THOSE EXECUTED, TORTURED, OR WHO DIED IN CAPTIVITY.”
