With this 2 Euro Coin Monaco commemorates Prince Honoré III, who was Prince of Monaco from 1732-1793. The year 2020 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of the Prince from the House of Goyon-Grimaldi, born in 1720. Honoré III became the supreme leader of the Monegasques at the age of only 11 years. Because the House of Grimaldi cultivated close relations with France, the French Revolution also had fatal consequences for Honoré III. Expropriation and the loss of aristocratic privileges were followed by imprisonment - in 1795 Prince Honoré III died in a dungeon in Paris. Only in 1814 his son, Honoré IV, was able to continue his father's inheritance.
The 2 Euro commemorative coin was struck in proof quality and features a portrait of Prince Honoré III. The portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions "HONORE III", "MONACO" and "1720 - NAISSANCE - 2020". A special feature of this coin is that its design extends to the outer ring with the twelve stars of the European flag.
The limited 2 Euro commemorative coin is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
