A 2-euro coin issued in 2024, dedicated to Finnish architecture.
Herman Gesellius, Arm Lindgren, and Eliel Saarinen founded a Finnish architectural firm in 1896.
Their first major joint project was the Finnish Pavilion for the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris (designed in 1898). This pavilion, which reflected the style of Finnish National Romanticism and was decorated with frescoes by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, was a great success and brought the young architects important commissions. The firm operated until 1907, after which its members continued their work independently.
The obverse features the silhouettes of four buildings, as well as the names of their architects and the coin’s year of issue. The country code “FI” and the mint mark are also visible.
The reverse of the coin features a map of Europe, the inscription “2 EURO,” and the 12 stars of the EU.
