The 2015 commemorative 500 hryvnia banknote was put into circulation to mark the 300th anniversary of the birth of Hryhorii Skovoroda, a unique, extraordinary, and vibrant personality whose work has remained relevant for centuries.
Anyone who has read Hryhorii Savych's works perceives him not only as a wandering philosopher, writer, and historian, but also as a person who inspires many generations to do and act, and his work "becomes an instrument of various ideas and views." The philosopher believed that the main thing in life is the feeling of freedom: "What is freedom? What good is it? Do they say that it is golden? No, it is not: having equalized all gold, it is only mud against freedom. Oh, that I had not been made a fool, That I could not remain without freedom..." [poem "De libertate" ("On Freedom")]. Today, the whole world sees what Ukrainians are capable of doing to defend their freedom, for which the Ukrainian people pay a very high price!
The 500 hryvnia commemorative banknote of the 2015 design of the HS series with the numbers 0000001-0050000 of 2022, issued in 2015; the size of the banknote is 75 x 154 mm.
Description of the obverse: the main image of the front side is a portrait of Hryhorii Skovoroda.
Reverse description - the main image of the reverse side is the building of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
